A group birthday video starts with a little organising. Decide who to invite, what to ask for and when you need everything back. This guide works whether you are preparing for Videmory Birthday or gathering memories before choosing a video maker.
Choose the story and the celebration
Decide whether you are celebrating their whole life or a particular chapter. Write down the birthday date, the planned viewing time and who will organise the contributions. For a surprise, keep the invitation out of any group chat that includes the recipient.
Invite people from different chapters
Think beyond the nearest family group: childhood friends, siblings, neighbours, old teammates and colleagues may have different memories. One person can help you find contacts from each chapter. Ask people directly instead of relying on a public social post. In Videmory Birthday everyone joins from one invitation link with just their name; nobody installs anything.
Ask for a small, specific contribution
Ask each person for a few favourite photos or clips and one short birthday video message. Tell them to keep it short and sweet: forty-five seconds at the very most, and shorter is usually better. Include a prompt such as “Tell us about a moment when they made you laugh”. Give a deadline several days before the party.
Gather photos with a little context
Request the approximate year, the people in the picture and what was happening. Scan old prints or photograph them in even light. Keep original digital files where possible. Do not assume the date on a newly scanned photograph is the date of the memory. Name scans and clips with the year and a few words — “1985 - Nan’s kitchen” — and Videmory will offer the date and the caption for you to accept. Check the memories before making the film
Look for missing life stages, duplicate photos and unclear dates. Ask about uncertain details. Check whether private stories, embarrassing moments or images of children are appropriate for the intended audience. In Videmory Birthday the organiser reviews the collection and adds a year or an age where it is needed before building — easiest on a computer, where the life story spreads across the screen; the same birthday opens there with the join code and your organiser PIN.

Watch the complete preview before you pay for anything. If the music does not suit them, you can build it again from the same collection. Test your planned screen, speakers and playback method before the celebration, and if you will show a downloaded film, test the actual file on the device you plan to use.
