How to record a birthday video message
Wipe your camera lens, face a window and choose a quiet spot. Put the phone somewhere steady at eye level. Follow the organiser’s requested orientation so contributions look consistent. Leave a short pause before and after speaking, then watch the recording to check that your voice is clear.
Speak to the person, rather than to an audience. If you make a small mistake but the message feels warm and natural, it may be the take you want to keep. Keep it short and sweet — forty-five seconds at the most, and half that is often better. The messages together share about a third of the film, so a short one leaves room for everybody else.
Make the message part of a bigger story
Talk about one memory, and say roughly when it was.
